An annual plant growing to 10-30 cm tall. The stem is very branched, with dense clusters of small flowers. The leaves are 1-4 cm long and 3-5 mm, broad, alternate, sessile, quite hairy, oval to lanceolate, with an entire margin.

Flowers have four yellow or orange petals, and grow at the end of the stem.. The petals are wedge-shaped, forming a funnel.
It is a native of the west coast of America from California up to British Columbia. Its flowers could be described as being like that of the Azalea and come in pinks, lavender, purples and reds.
