Meadow foxtail occurs throughout the UK. It is most abundant in low lying areas, river valleys, wetlands or in old meadows on moist soils.

It is a loosely tufted perennial which grows to 30 to 120 cm high

Some meadow foxtail of very nutritious and palatable to stock. They withstand the cold and remain green throughout the winter and they are one of the first grass species to flower.
