It is a colourful thistle type plant.

It has reddish purple flowers packed on to the flower heads.

Easy to grow and it does well in a  summer meadow.  It is favourite of bees and butterflies.

Sown from seed packets.

Sow the seed where it is to flower or in trays in the spring. Cover lightly with soil. Germination should only take a few weeks. Knapweed is best planted in grass from autumn to early spring.
